大律師鍾卓萬（劉松仁飾）外表洋化，但思想傳統，骨子裡仍然重男輕女，享受一夫多妻及蓄婢制度。
鍾卓萬有三個妻妾：大房顧心蘭（韓馬利飾）乃是父母之命、留學英國前所娶，為卓萬誕下一男一女。及後，卓萬邂逅了前清格格愛新覺羅爾嫣（陳玉蓮飾），被爾嫣我行我素的氣質及曾經是皇族的尊貴身份吸引，逐娶之為二房。然而爾嫣心中另有所屬，只是為了生活放棄初戀下嫁卓萬。
卓萬後來娶了銀行家之後易懿芳（江美儀飾）為三房，卓萬對三個女人都出於真心愛護，就算三人之間多少有爭寵不和，卓萬仍能輕易擺平，故多年來相安無事。直至康子君（楊怡飾）出現，才打破多年平衡。…
